  • I enjoyed your fundraising banquet tips. However a question arises.
Using the varied “streams of attendance” method instead of our last year one which was table host and sponsors only.

    1. How do you write presentation letter or give people choices to either be one or all three?
    2. How do you effectively sell people that do not live in our area or even same state?

    Bless your dy,

Question, I work for a Right to Life organization. In your information you write about having that emotional connection to your group. I have seen this done very well at a local crises pregnancy banquet. However, our organization is such that we do not receive one on one type of visits. Our mission is to educate the “general” public on all sanctity of life issues. It is very rare when I hear of one of our billboards, radio or TV campaigns actually affecting someone. We hope to know those results when we get to heaven, but in the meantime we do not hear direct results. What would be your suggestion in this area of the presentation?

  • Thank you so much for this wonderful and timely information. I spent my afternoon reading over “The 7 Secrets of Highly Succesful Fundraising Banquets” since I am preparing for our upcoming Sept. banquets now. We do follow many of your suggestions but can certainly enhance many of the ways we promote attendance and get underwriters.
One concern I always have at our banquet nights (2) is every year we get a few tables of the same senior citizens who come and tend to have a “night out” of fellowship and dinner with their friends and rarely donate more than $5.00 each “if” they donate which doesn’t even cover the cost of the meal. Should I be concerned or grateful to have them?

    • Awww, yes, be kind. Dare I say that off the top of my head I can
think of nearly 10 great effects these “over the hill ers” will no doubt have on our world:

      1) THEY WILL HAVE MUCH MORE TO TALK ABOUT THEN CARING FOR THEIR YARD, AND SHARING HEALTH PROBLEMS!
      2) THEY WILL TALK ANIMATEDLY ABOUT EVERYTHING POSITIVE AND UPLIFTING THEY HEARD TO THEIR GRANDCHILDREN, NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS.
      3) BESIDES, MANY OLDSTERS STILL HOLD DOWN PRIME MINISTRIES IN THEIR CHURCHES, ETC…AND DO MOST OF THE VOLUNTEER WORK.
      4) I COULD GO ON….BUT YOU GET THE PICTURE…………….

And, they really “think” they are giving a lot. You know, they can probably do more with a $5.00 bill……..s t r e t c h i n g it further than anyone under 30 ever thought of doing!

Thanks for listening, just thougnt I could make you smile.
(Besides, I’m over 65; uh, you probably guessed that huh?

I am very interested in learning your 7 secrets for a successful banquet. We are a new pregnancy center and have started from scratch, no donors and no mailing list. Our first banquet this past March generated about $20,000 which included some underwriting.

We are located in a migrant farm worker community. Most residents are very poor and the needs are great. 70% of the population is Hispanic and the goal for our first banquet was to raise enough for two part-time positions. One position was a bi-lingual staff person. We still need to raise the money for these positions and more….

I am looking forward to learning more and putting together a successful banquet next March! Thank you for being willing to share your knowledge and your desire to help in these tough financial times.

    • Flo Davis says:

      Diane,
I would say, WOW, to you for the first banquet proceeds. I remember my first banquet was $12,000 – of course that was about 8 years ago. However, I think you did very well especially considering that you are located in a farm community with many hispanics.
I know you will do better next year after learning more from others.
      Blessings,
      Flo

Hi DavidThank you for the “7 Secrets”!  You have put so much time and effort into this information – thank you for your servants heart and being willing to share it with all of us.A few years ago we paid quite a bit for banquet training through another organization. We have had 3 somewhat successful banquets but always felt that there were gaps that needed filled in ordr to be more effective with this fundraising effort. Your “7 Secrets” appetizers really whet my appetite and am very interested in the main course…I’m wondering how to get more information on your coaching program.  Thank you again – loved the “Streams of Attendance”

  • Thanks so much David and Shawn for your hard work in the pro-life movement and for sharing of the fruit of your labor in fund-raising for such a worthy cause. Your free sharing of how to raise money in our current economy is a God-send for our ministry to the poorest of the poor in developing countries. May God continue to bless the work of your hands! Amen.

  • Becky Smith says:

I am having difficulty downloading your 7 Secrets. When I go to print it, the letters change.

  • Dear Shawn & David,

I just downloaded your information about the banquet fundraiser help. I live and work in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Have you anyone who has attempted to apply this in second world countries such as Bosnia? Do you have any thoughts on that or, should I first go through al the material first and then formulateany questions I have?

There is no pro-life movement here at all. I was active in all phases of pro-life work in the U.S. except legislation before we came here over 10 years ago. It has always been my vision, calling and hearts desire to start a CP and Post-abortion ministry here. We now are ready to do this. We have been given a great 3 story building, renovated and with funds to cover our basic operating expense, utilities, etc. We are self-supporting so, are needs are mostly for developmental areas such as educational literature and other things to help stimulate this ministry. There is almost no resources here so that is difficult. Most people here are not volunteer minded, and are usually thinking of getting help personally rather than giving. But, we have seen some movement lately. These people need to be taught that sharing what they have starts no matter how little you have and some are finally getting it. Eileen Pressler Sarajevo
